Swans (and other animals) at Welney

Twice in two days I managed to get out with a camera.  Must be some kind of record...

Off to the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust at Welney this afternoon with other members of Cambridge Camera Club.  Strong sunlight made photographing the swans difficult, but highly enjoyable nevertheless.  I hadn't realised quite what cantankerous and bad-tempered beings they were until I'd watched them beat each other up.

After the light had faded, I amused myself by attempting to capture the graceful movement of the birds in the water.

Finally, some of the non-avian members of our group.  We start 'em young in CCC...

Unfortunately it's back to work tomorrow.  :-(

Thawing Fowlmere

For the first time since Christmas I managed to get out with a camera today.  Most of January has been lost to organising the annual Cambridge Inter-club Digital Competition, which almost fell foul of the freezing weather conditions last weekend.

Now that it's started to thaw, Harriet and I went to the RSPB reserve at Fowlmere.  Not many birds were in evidence, unless you count the ubiquitous pigeons of course, but there was one real highlight (see later).  Otherwise it was a matter of photographing the reeds, trees and reflections.

Ok, so I admit that it's a rubbish picture, but this was the highlight of the visit.  A kingfisher, which posed for us in front of the Reedbed Hide.  Unfortunately I only had a 70-200 lens with me, so the image below is a 100% crop.

The final picture shows the view across the fields outside the reserve.  By this time, despite the thaw, we'd lost touch with our toes, so headed back home to get warm.

Horsey Seals (and friends)

At the beginning of December, a group of us from the club went to see the seal pups at Horsey.  They are just as cute as ever (the seal pups, not the club members).

It's a while since I've posted any pictures of Homo photographicus, so it's about time I remedied that...

Great Yarmouth Santa Run

While in Great Yarmouth we saw several young women dressed up in Santa outfits, and initially assumed this was a hangover (literally) from a hen party the night before.  It turned out to be a bona fide Santa Run in aid of the East Anglia Children's Hospice.

To complete the spectacle there were three photographers and a pink pig.

You'll just have to take my word for it that the pig was pink...
